Aleah – Massage Therapist

Education and Certifications
College of DuPage – Massage Therapy Certification
Harper College – Reiki Level 1

Aleah strives to develop a professional, client-centered atmosphere. Using her skills to provide a bodywork treatment focused on relaxation, pain relief, rehabilitation, and recovery from injury. Her goal for each client is for them to leave in a better state than when they came in.

What is the biggest inspiration about your career?
I chose massage because I like knowing that I can help someone feel better-whether it be a pain in someone’s muscle, to someone who’s just having a bad day and need of the stress relief. This profession holds many benefits that some don’t recognize right away and that’s the beauty about it. Also with this field, comes education the more you excel into this path. Within these last two years of my massage career.

With Sposh® Spa-Crafted Linens, you’ll rest on the same linens you’ll find on luxurious massage tables of top-rated spas around the world. These high-quality linens provide airflow while you sleep, creating a soothing feel for you to sink into as you let your worries melt away. Wake up feeling refreshed and ready for a new day.

There’s also coordinating microfiber robes, ultra-plush chelour robes and throws, quilted blankets, and sandal slippers to create that luxury “spa-at home” feeling.

Describe a time when you exceeded your guest’s expectations.
“Treat others the way you want to be treated.” This has been my life quote for longer than I can remember and I use it to this day with my massage career. I give my clients the upmost, genuine care because I believe that’s the ultimate goal in this profession. When you care for people that attitude reflects from them later on. When you treat people good; they want to do got onto this world and others around them.

What is your favorite massage related tip that you share with your guests for self-care?
I never thought that I would be able to educate people; education about the muscles and how knots form, how to release a trigger point, what’s the difference between a deep tissue and Swedish massage (a lot of people don’t know that one), or just by simply telling somebody to drink a little extra water to cleanse out the body. It’s mainly all about taking care of the human body and that’s the greatest treasure about it. Who doesn’t want to take care of their body?

What is your favorite thing about Spa Vargas Wellness?
Spa Vargas gives me diversity; in the fact that I can incorporate aromatherapy into every massage, I can cater to people’s needs, like working out knots, versus just giving them a relaxing massage. Teach them at-home stretches to release chronic pain and overall just give them a pleasurable experience enough to make them want to come back. It’s a place that I can do what I love to do and that’s what matters!

Kamlyn – Massage Therapist

Meet Kamlyn, Massage Therapist at our St. Charles location. Massage Therapist for 18 years and teaching massage for the last 8 years. My history is in dietetics with my BS in Human Nutrition and minor in Kinesiology.

I’m very passionate about the musculoskeletal system and complementary medicine; I know the body heals not only physically but mentally and spiritually as well. Massage addresses all three beautifully. I not only inspire to affect the muscular system through massage but through connected breath and aromatherapy/other modalities of bodywork, I make sure to relax the mind and help with the connection to their spirit.

What is the biggest inspiration about your career?
A peaceful rewarding job is my biggest inspiration. I’ve heard from my clients the relief and sense of healing they receive through my massage that carries through the week and longer. I believe the spa industry adds the relaxation that lowers stress levels for an extended amounts of time.

Describe a time when you exceeded your guest’s expectations.
Every time! Honestly, I try to exceed expectations for every guest. I like being treated that way so I like to give that level of care. However, one I’ll never forget – I had a client with extremely sensitive skin (psoriasis). We tried every oil/cream from basic therapeutic blends, jojoba oil all the way to edibles like grapeseed and olive. I really tried to think out of the box and tried unique ways to not cause her skin to inflame. After months of experimenting we finally found an oil that didn’t adversely affect her skin. However, it slightly irritated my skin… I never told her but I got a (quick to fade) rash every time I massaged her.

What is your favorite massage related tip that you share with your guests for self-care?
I always share what I know about proper body mechanics. Basically, the correct ways to walk, sit and stand catered to the individual. You’d be surprised how often people neglect their body on a daily basis. Some small and simple adjustments can help alleviate their aliments.

What is your favorite thing about Spa Vargas Wellness and why you chose to work for us?
This is an easy question! I love the ambiance, the ultimate pamper experience, the team feel from the staff and the extreme friendliness from all of my superiors.

Any Extra Special Education and or Certifications you have that you are proud of?
Since cupping is trending right now thanks to Michael Phelps and the Olympics. Myofascial Decompression (cupping) is a way to increase healing when added to massage or given alone. I see the benefits not only to the athlete but the everyday person as well.

I have always liked helping people. Back in Poland, as a physical therapist I used to help people in a hospital setting. Now, I try to help with a massage. It can provide a context for recovery by inducing a sense of well-being!

Dee – Spa Manager

Meet Dee, Spa Manager and Instructor at Spa Vargas School of Massage Therapy. She strives to develop a relaxing and therapeutic, guest-centered atmosphere. Focusing on ensuring the guest has received the best care with service and homecare products. Her goal for each guest is for them to leave in a better state than when they came in.

What is the biggest inspiration about your career?
Prior to my Massage Therapy Career I was in the Business Field in some form or another. I worked long hours, some days without any face to face contact with people. I decided to reevaluate and chose Massage Therapy as my new profession. My biggest inspiration is my mother. I believe that Massage Therapy should be available to everyone especially those who have the heavy duty labor jobs. To help someone get through a tough day of work can be the most rewarding.

Describe a time when you exceeded your guest’s expectations.
There have been numerous times where I would skip my break just to give extra attention to an area that did not want to let go. I can also recall times when someone just needed some compassion because of what was going on in their lives. Whatever the case I think as a therapist we already have that built in standard to help someone as much as we can. We all have that ability it’s just a matter of are we willing to take that extra step!

What is your favorite massage related tip that you share with your guests for self-care?
Listen to what your body is trying to tell you. Our bodies are smarter than we give them credit for. STOP and give yourself a break, and of course some hydration and nourishment.

What is your favorite thing about Spa Vargas Wellness?
All of the staff, and the possibilities and growth that we can achieve together.

Denise – Spa Manager

Meet Denise, Spa Manager at Spa Vargas Wellness. She manages Garlands of Barrington and Friendship Village of Schaumburg. She enjoys a rewarding career taking care of our guests and listening to their stories. The various roles within Spa Vargas has provided her with a strong foundation to manage our spa where she started as a receptionist. Denise’s focus on the guest is her number one priority.

What is the biggest inspiration you have for entering the spa and wellness industry?
I worked within a Chiropractic setting for eight years and witnessed the wellness side of healthcare by taking care of the cause and not just the symptoms.

Describe a time when you exceeded your guest’s expectations.
I treat how I would like to be treated. I have been told on numerous occasions during my massage schooling that “the massage was their best massage experience yet” and for me that alone is the motivation for me to continue to do my best.

What is your favorite health related tip that you share with your guests for selfcare?
Stretch! Stretch! Stretch! Stretching promotes oxygenated blood to flow throughout the body. Oxygen is one of the body’s natural healers. Under stress, increasing the oxygen flow will help with healing and will also help alleviate pain.

What is your favorite think about Spa Vargas?
How as a team we focus on the wellness of each guest that comes in to Spa Vargas.

Jenny – Massage Therapist Manager

Overview
Meet Jenny, Massage Manager and Massage Therapist at Spa Vargas Wellness. She strives to develop a professional, client-centered atmosphere. Using her skills to provide a bodywork treatment focused on relaxation, pain relief, rehabilitation, and recovery from injury. Her goal for each client is for them to leave in a better state than when they came in.

What is the biggest inspiration about your career?
I am a Licensed Massage Therapist and I provide therapy in the form of massage. Most people expect the spa to be purely relaxing, which it can be, but when I provide relief to clients with lower back pain or can relieve a chronic headache it sheds light that they don’t have to always go see a chiropractor or physical therapist. That the spa setting is therapeutic, as well.

Describe a time when you exceeded your guest’s expectations.
I have had countless times where I get first time massage go-er’s and they are pretty skeptical. After the massage they exclaim how they thought before it was just “back rubbing” and they didn’t know how they went their whole lives without a massage. It’s a wonderful feeling knowing that as a Licensed Massage Therapist, I’m continually making a difference in people lives.

What is your favorite massage related tip that you share with your guests for self-care?
Self massage. It’s been said that rubbing your own shoulders for 10 minutes 5 times a day is equivalent to the outcome of having a professional hour long massage.

What is your favorite thing about Spa Vargas Wellness?
The environment. Our goals for guests are to Relax, Refresh, and Rejuvenate, and on countless occasions I have left work feeling the same way that we want our guest to feel when they leave Spa Vargas Wellness.

Education and Certifications
Harper College – Massage Therapy Certification
SOHMAR – Certified Reflexologist
Harper College – Reiki Level 1

Jermel – Nail Specialist

Meet Jermel Giddens, Nail Specialist and Cosmetologist at Spa Vargas Wellness. Following a love for beauty and giving advice to friends and family, she has pursued a career in the spa and wellness industry.

How did you get involved in spa and wellness industry?
I got into cosmetology by being very infatuated with beauty and always being the go to person for hair, makeup, fashion tips and nail design. I feel that everyone, both males and females, care about the way they present themselves and about the way others look at them. If someone’s hair, makeup, and clothing are put together, they can make a person feel good, and I enjoy being the one to help make others feel good about themselves.

Why is having a pedicure important?
Having a pedicure is very important because, along with the heart and spine, feet are crucial to one’s balance. Taking care of your feet can mean relieving body pain, fighting diabetes, and preventing sores and infections that may be caused by daily activities. The average person is standing on their feet 75% of the day, walking, running, or standing. Internal problems caused by various stressors start to have an effect on the nails of one’s feet and hands, so it’s important to take care of them. Additionally, who doesn’t want to show off pretty feet in the summer time?

What do you most enjoy about Spa Vargas?
I enjoy having a place to explore my many talents and show off my artwork through nails. I enjoy meeting many different people and the diversity within the company.

Education and Certifications
2009 – Cosmetology School
2011 – Cosmetology Certification
2014 – Spa receptionist
2011 - Current – Business Management

Jessica – Spa Manager

Meet Jessica DeAngelo, Licensed Esthetician and Spa Manager at Spa Vargas in Barrington. She followed her passion for skincare after experiencing her first facial. Over the past 13 years, she has grown and contributed to the success of Spa Vargas.

How did you get involved in esthetics?
When I received my first facial, I found the whole experience intriguing. I already had a good knowledge about my own skin due to my personal interest. The esthetician encouraged me to pursue skincare because he saw that I interacted well with people and thought that I would really love the field. I originally worked in the office of my family business and, after a while, wanted to find something more fulfilling. I’m very grateful for that esthetician’s advice because I loved every minute of school and I still enjoy learning about the ever-evolving technologies and skin care ingredients that can help all types of facial clients. And most importantly, I love assisting my clients reach their skin goals.

Why is body waxing important?
Body waxing is a convenient and comfortable way to remove unwanted hair. For many busy women in a professional setting, a body wax allows them to not worry about body hair for weeks. For people with sensitive skin who may not be able to shave without getting bumps or burns, body waxing allows them to safely remove otherwise troublesome hair without the risk of unsightly or unhealthy skin damage. I have a very loyal waxing clientele and am always happy to hear that they come to me not only for my talent, but also for the way I make them feel comfortable in an otherwise uncomfortable setting from their very first service. Brazilian Bikini Wax and Eyebrow Shaping are my specialties!

What do you most enjoy about Spa Vargas?
I enjoy the people! I love my clients, many of whom I have had for over 12 years, and I love working with my team! We are all very close and I have enjoyed seeing their families grow and evolve along with mine. I work with a group of people that care and strive to do the best; that inspires me daily! Spa Vargas has allowed me to grow within my field along with career growth opportunities in business management.
